I know, I know – you don’t have the time, or, you’re just not sure what to write about. Nonsense. Here are five guidelines for small to medium-sized businesses to creating an effective blog. And, become a thought leader in the process…
It takes less time than you might think and consider the upside — you can speak directly to (and with) your audience with ZERO digital spend. After all, blogging is free and is a great content marketing tool that can attract, gain engagement, and help turn your audience into advocates. The most significant upside is that you’ll soon be recognized as a thought leader in your field.
So lets’ get to it. Here are five guidelines for creating an effective blog.
1. Start with a plan.
Map out a 60 or even a 90-day editorial calendar that includes at least one blog post every week, if not two. In the calendar, pencil in your ideas for each week. Keep in mind your branding elements and your target audiences. Write the topics in chunks of months, and start publishing when you have the first month’s completed.
2. Mix up the content.
Gain thought leadership by providing two types of content — created and curated. Created content is original content based on your level of expertise and experience and is an excellent opportunity to re-enforce your brand. Curated content presents the most relevant, highest-quality information to meet your audience’s needs on a specific subject, but is derived from another source. Curated content is meant to move the conversation forward and allow a space for your brand to be sociable.
3. Up your SEO.
Strategic keywords used consistently will rank higher with search engines. Use these keywords in the title field, meta description field, headings, and body copy. nhouse design creates powerful branding, marketing tactics, and dynamic content for business owners and marketing professionals with faster project speeds, flattened costs, and the convenience of working directly with the industry’s best talent.
4. Tell people what you want them to do.
Have a call-to-action at the end of every blog post – but vary what the call-to-action is from post to post. A good call-to-action will keep your audience engaged with your brand and get them further down the funnel. Subscribe to our email for more effective marketing tips.
5. Make it easy to find.
Online searches include many social components into its algorithm. Therefore, the more content from a blog that is socially shared, the higher it will rank in online searches. Hashtags are an easy way to help facilitate that. #marketingtactics
